Christmas Bell Doily

Christmas Bell Doily
"I am in Kerala enjoying Christmas holidays. Kids are happy following Uncle Santa for the church carol. Visiting many houses on such days. Since schools are closed for Christmas holidays, most of the kids attend the Carol. My kids are celebrating Christmas in hometown for the first time.... They are familiar with the limited celebrations in Muscat. They are in heaven now.  Last day they came back home at 1 am in  the morning..." [Dec 23rd, 2012]

I found this post saved as Draft in my folder today. I was in Kerala during last Christmas season. Couldn't post that time.  This was my second doily for the last Christmas season. I found this particular pattern  at http://www.momsloveofcrochet.com/belldoily.html.  I have done this  with knitting thread and 2mm steel hook. To give a a festive mood,  used red and green colors.

Star Center Ruffles Doily

After my last vacation during July-August, I was really feeling bad for not touching my crochet needles and threads.  I collected some crochet threads via Pradhan Embroidery Stores, Mumbai. I ordered the threads through their Facebook  page and they sent me the yarns through Speed Post. I got the threads on the third day of my order. Their service was excellent.

Anyway, I came out of the laziness by the end of October. Did  two crocheted doilies for Christmas. The first one is the Star Center Ruffles Doily. The pattern is from Nima's blog.

Star Center Ruffles Doily
Thread : Size 10 crochet thread
Hook : 1 mm steel hook
420 Red beads

The beading part was comparatively easy for me. Scatter the beads on any flat surface.  Use a beading needle. If you use the normal one, the beads should pass through the needle's eye smoothly. Thread the needle using normal sewing thread. Loop it through the crochet thread. Start beading.  With a soft touch of needle tip on the bead's hole, it easily jumps and places on the needle. To speed up, you may use your other hand's index finger to slightly push the just added bead on the needle.

After placing 8-10 beads, drag  them down to the crochet thread.  Count the the number of beads in one inch of thread. Then calculate the length of  beaded thread for the required amount of beads. Eg: This pattern needs 420 beads. There are 20 beads in one inch of beaded thread. So 420/20=21". Bead the crochet thread for the calculated length. You may add few extra beads for your peace of mind, if necessary. The advantage - no need of counting beads. Enjoy beading...

Pinwheel Doily

Nothing more creative happened this month. My mind is more into sewing. Successfully stitched one churidar set for me.  Needs more perfection for the sleeves it seems. Will be trying another set  soon. Before going on summer vacation in July-August, there is a long to-do list with me. Have to work hard to complete it before leaving.

I did one pinwheel doily last month. Did a pinwheel for the first time. Interesting pattern.. Like that swirl in the middle. Wish to do more swirls when I come back after the holidays...

Cutie Pie Doily

Here is my Cutie pie doilies in size 10 crochet thread. There is a long story behind these doilies. Few months ago, I did a cutie pie doily with this thread. Then tried to add few more rounds to it. Added 10 more rounds but it was not so satisfactory. I removed all of the extra rounds added.

Another day, may little brats removed all rounds of the above said cutie pie and rolled the thread nicely into a ball and gave it to me. I gave up the plan of doing it again. Last week when the thread ball came  into my hands again, I decided to try the cutie pie doily.

Cutie Pie Doilies
After finishing the doily, I felt like it was small in size. It was because that I used 1.5mm hook instead of the 1.75mm hook and missed one round in between. I realized it after weaving the ends. So did one more with 1.75mm hook. Don't want to feel guilty again for a cutie pie...

Shells and Chain Scarf

I tried a scarf for the first time. Shell and Chain scarf. Got the pattern from  http://anastaciaknits.net/?p=965. It is simple to make. I used acrylic yarn 1 ball with 3.5mm crochet hook. The scarf is 42" long 3.5" wide.       Here is the scarf in my ever time favorite blue colour.

Crocheted Multipurpose Pouch

Here is my crocheted multipurpose pouch. We can use it for keeping essential things like mobile phone, keys and money. A cute little thing to carry with.
Crocheted multipurpose pouch
There are two compartments for this little pouch as shown in the bottom left corner. I got the idea from a video in youtube which I have seen long time back. Now I don't have the link.

I made two crocheted pieces. First one with height needed for my pouch and the second one with its double height. Arranged the first piece inside the second and using a tapestry needle and crochet yarn, stitched it together to form the basic carrying structure. Then on top of one side, attached the flap using double crochet. Added single row of shells at the end, attached crocheted chain in the middle of this  row. And finally, added a button.

See you next time....

Glorious Pineapple Doily

I did a glorious pineapple doily this week. This is my  first pineapple doily.  An easy and interesting pattern. Pattern link is here. Used knitting thread size 20 with 2mm steel hook.
Glorious Pineapple Doily
My daughter 'helped' me a lot while  doing this pattern. She used to sit by my side and talk continuously about all those things happened in her school, about her teacher,  friends....  I have to give an ear to that and the  effect was I will be doing 3 rounds and will be going back to the first round again to correct the mistakes...Finally I finished this doily when she was in school... She is a wonderful naughty kid.

I finished a larger hipster doily too.... It is an enlarged version of this Hipster Doilies which I have done earlier... One of my first attempts... I like doing hipster doily pattern.... Here is the pattern link.

Winter Breath and Spiral Simplicity Doilies

At last, I blocked my first set of doilies yesterday. I did both of them before the summer holidays. ie; in August.  I did this Winter Breath Doily first. The stitches are little loose for the first few rounds. I used Ecru/off-white for both of the doilies.

Hipster Doily

I tried another doily. Rachel Choi's Hipster Doily pattern.  Nima suggested me this site after my last  attempt of doing a doily.  I think these are far better than the first one. I would like to do the Hipster doily's larger version soon, and try to correct the mistakes in my first doily.

My First Simple Doily

I got a simple doily pattern from http://ashleymisiak.webs.com/apps/blog/. For the first time when I crocheted, it was a tragedy. This is my second attempt. There are many mistakes. Not that much happy with the outcome.

The following was the code for the doily pattern.
  1. Round1: ch 8, sl st to first ch to form a ring. (8 ch)
  2. Round2: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc throughout) 19 more dc into ring, sl st totop of ch 3. (20 dc)
  3. Round3: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc and ch 1 throughout) *dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeatfrom * around, sl st to top of ch 3. (20 dc, 20 ch)
  4. Round4: ch 3, dc in next ch-1 sp *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch 1 sp. Repeat from *around, sl st to top of ch 3. (60 dc)
  5. Round5: ch 3 *dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around, sl st to top of ch 3. (30dc, 30 ch)
  6. Round6: ch 3, dc in next ch 1 sp *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch 1 sp. Repeat from *around, sl st to top of ch 3. (90 dc)
  7. Round7: ch 3, *dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around, sl st to top of ch 3. (45dc, 45 ch)
  8. Round8: ch 3, dc in next ch 1 sp *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch 1 sp. Repeat from *around, sl st to top of ch 3. (135 dc)

First time, when I did it, everything was fine till  4th round. But when the 5th round was finished, I was much disturbed. It was supposed to have only 30 double crochets, but there were more than 90.  Kept all the tools aside. Next day, decided to do it again. The code says -  Round5: ch 3 *dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around, sl st to top of ch 3. (30dc, 30 ch) -  The gap between the double crochets were not formed when I did this. After dc in next dc, ch 1 I left one chain space  before doing the next double crochet. Then only I got the gap there.  Is it correct? The actual pattern was  of 8 rounds. Since I felt it too small, I added two more rows. Till 8th round, there were no fringes formed. But when added the last round, fringes began to appear. Experts please comment on this.

A Crocheted Birthday Gift......

This is a birthday gift for my  my friend's daughters. A grany sauqre drawstring purse. I got this pattern through ravelry.com from http://yellowpinkandsparkly.blogspot.com/. Made five granny squares first. Then joined them to form a box with an open top. Five rows were added on the top of the box. Made a double crocheted string and passed it though chain space of second row from the top. After the box was finished, it took few days to work again on it. At last, it is finished.....

The original design was supposed to do with granny squares of five rows size. But I  made it with six. So, my drawstring purse is bigger than the original pattern.

The box is finished...
Can be used for storage...

One more row to finish...

And the final product...

Crochet Fever...

During last week, we (me and my friend)  were in great enthusiasm thinking about learning Crochet. I tried knitting first, but lack of helping hands forced me to drop the idea. After dreaming of crochet for more than few months, we did some shopping to collect the essentials for crochet practice from the Mazoon Shopping Complex  in Ruwi. We bought some threads and crochet needles from there. Though we had a little knowledge about the materials needed, the shopper also helped us to choose the things. He might have thought of us mad, when he came to know that we are going to learn crochet and buying all these things.... No problem... we are ready to try Crochet... The main strength behind this thought is that we will get enough support from Nima & Ninu Jacob and also can make use of various video tutorials available in different websites and Youtube.

Anyway, there is nothing in having a trial. If it is success, we will continue doing it.  When I tried the chains and slip stitch,  I was greedy to do the Granny Square. And after some trials, the attempt was successful. Above is my first Granny Square.....There may be mistakes, but can improve...
